Crowdfunding contest launched from gaming giant Hasbro
Hasbro has launched a competition that will allow people to submit their own game idea, with the winner awarded a $25,000 prize and an opportunity to work with the company to develop the idea fully.
This is the second competition of its kind launched by the makers of popular games such as Monopoly, Cludeo and Connect 4, however it differs significantly from the last. This time game designers from the UK, France, Germany and most of Canada are able to pitch their idea, and the prize is much more lucrative. Designers have until May 15th to pitch their ideas.
Once the competition closes Hasbro will then select 15 semi-finalists who will have to submit prototypes. Once those prototypes are inspected and played with, five finalists will be selected to launch campaigns on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The crowdfunding aspect of the contest will run for a more beginning in October and each finalist will receive $2,000 to help fund their games.
Hasbro has their own in-house team of gaming designers but it makes sense for the manufacturers of brand products like Transformers and My Little Pony to look elsewhere for some inspiration. The giant was behind the manufacture and distribution of one of last years hit games, Pie Face, which was externally developed so they understand the need to involve outside sources in their business plan.
